The Wyvern School

Head's Welcome

An introduction from our Headteacher:

Welcome to The Wyvern School website. I hope our website gives you a flavor of what our school has to offer.

We are located in Ashford, Kent at a beautiful 15 acre site. We currently have 359 students aged 3- 19 who have a wide range of learning needs for children and young people with profound, severe and complex learning needs, including autism who live in Ashford and the surrounding area. We are very proud of our satellite provisions at Great Chart Primary and The Towers School which provide our children and young people opportunities to learn alongside their mainstream peers.

We offer a pathways approach to our curriculum as well as a personalized approach to each child’s learning through their EHCP. Our pathways have their own curriculum and strategies to support learning that are right for those groups of learners. No matter which pathway a child or young person learns within our aim is always work jointly with parents and careers to get the best for each child, ensuring they are well prepared for adult life.

We have lots of facilities to support learning here at Wyvern, these include our forest school, hydrotherapy pool, soft play room, sensory room, Rebound therapy trampolines (indoor and outdoor), multi-use games area and a huge field which is accessible for everyone. Arts opportunities are central to the experience of all of our children and young people, we achieved Platinum Arts Mark 2019-2021, the only Kent special school to do so. We have ambitious plans to be the only special school in the country to achieve Platinum Arts Mark for the second time in 2024.

We are located right next door to the Rainbow Centre. This houses the children with disabilities social services teams and health professionals including pediatricians, occupational therapists and speech therapists, which allows us to work closely together in a cohesive way. Our specialist observation and assessment nursery is located within the Rainbow Centre.

Please feel free to contact us with any questions or comments.

Warm regards,

Penny Bullen
